Chapter 6

Something was troubling the witch.

This unbearable feeling deep inside.

She always had felt it. Since day one of her existence.

Like a field of endless tears never cried. Like if this pain had piled up inside of her for an eternity.

She didn’t know why the tears were there. She didn’t know what made her so sad, so she couldn’t let them out. Every time she thought about it, she could feel the sharpness of the pain hurting her a little bit more.

She wished she knew.

She wished she could let them out.

Death was sitting on the couch, watching her.

-What witch?

Her gaze was lost in the darkness outside the window.

-Something is up.

-What?  What is it?

A hard question, she didn’t really know what she felt. It was information that she was receiving but she didn’t really know what it meant.

-I feel... an end.

-Yeah, Death is sitting on your couch. That would do it.

He was very unpleased to be there. To be so close to her. To be so sad.

-No, I feel something else. Something stronger.

-What could be stronger than death. Nothing is stronger that death. Everything dies.

-One thing is. One thing never dies.

She focus on the darkness outside, trying to confirm what she was feeling.

Death wanted to yell. Death wanted to make her stop. It felt like she was programmed in this life only to say the things that hurt him most.

- And it grow stronger. It’s gonna change everything.

He wanted to make her shut. He wanted to make her stop.

-And the violence, don’t you feel it? The violence who killed all the souls I am guiding while talking to you. The humans are more and more aggressive.

She did not seemed bother by his remark.

-The human’s body is created to balance itself. When living an intense emotion, the body will send a dose of the opposite feeling.

She looked at him. She was connected to the source where the information was coming from. The part of the universe that was keeping her in tune, it was transferring what she had to know.

-That is what is happening right now, but on a way bigger scale. The humans are feeling this change, this hope. That feeling is too intense for us to handle so the brain is sending us the opposite feeling, pure rage.

She looked at it without really seeing it.

-It can’t be stopped anymore.

Death jumped up. It would not tolerate hope to reach him. He had accepted it’s situation and nothing could be done about it. It didn’t want to suffer more that the pain it grew used to.

After only a few steps it was in front of the witch and grabbed her wrist in a desperate attempt to make her stop.

It would never hurt her, it just wanted to stop the connection with the flow of information she was receiving from the universe. That she would stop. She wouldn’t create hope.

But it did the opposite.

It got swallowed in with her.

***

All stopped. Time stopped, noises stopped. They were nowhere and everywhere, all at once. Everything was dark like in the beginning, like in every end.

She knew she was still the witch, and she was facing death. It was holding her wrist.

While Death joined her, he brought with it a special kind of memory that got transferred to her.

The scene was happening not in front of her but inside of her, like if she could feel it, like she knew it had happened.

Death was still holding her, looking right into her eyes. It knew what she was going to see and there was no way to stop it. But it wish it could. It wasn’t ready. It meant it would have so see the scene once again.

She was quietly standing in front of it. And she grabbed it’s hand while the images appeared in her head.

It was her.

Everything around them was pure darkness. Except them. Except her.

She had just died but she was still in the form of the body she had in that life.

The soul gets attached to it. It doesn’t let go of the form right away.

Standing there, young, in that beautiful skinny red dress.

She was holding on to death.

-Death! Death!

Tears started to flow down her cheek, like every time.

-Death, I missed you so much. I am so sorry.

She took it in her arms, she could now, she had a body.

-Please Death, I don’t wanna go back. I don’t wanna go back. I can’t do this again.  Don't let this start again!

Death was the only creature in it’s sense. It had a body, but not really either.

-I know my dear friend, I know, but I can’t do anything about it.

-We have to stop it. We have to find a way.

-I wish we could.

-No! No! I don’t want to go back!

She could feel her soul letting go of the body.

-The pain, death is unbearable. I feel it. Every second. It never leaves my heart.  No matter in what body I get reincarnated.

And she was gone.

Death could feel it. A new body was sent on the planet. And her soul sent in it. She had forgotten everything once again.

They just had theses few seconds where they recognized each other. And they had to do it all over again, in an eternal circle.

There was just pain, and no way to get out of it.

Death, as every time, had to go back to work. But even if it was lying to itself, every time it was hurting it a bit more.
